It doesn't take much
It doesn't take much. A word, a phrase, a meaningful question. Something more than nothing, though not really much at all. Eagerness feels vast. Ideas and potential, yet to be born. With that small, significant something they take momentum and form. That something, the presence of another. A relationship in mind and life. That something more than nothing, not much really, changes it all.
Written in March and posted here in May 2025, this poem is about the magic of having the right coach/mentor/teacher/friend at the right time.
It's about those moments where a seemingly small contribution in the form of a question or observation from another can make all the difference.
It's about how so much of our growth comes from ourselves and yet how vital and accelerating a relationship can be at important junctions.
It's about the power of relationships in the mind as much as in person.
It's called "It doesn't take much". May you inspire or be inspired by another.
The picture is at Meditation Mount in Ojai, I had been at a Meditation Day Retreat nearby at the Topa Institute Retreat Center with a colleague that day and over a lunchtime stroll something he said caused an expansion of possibility in my mind. That conversation and similar are the inspiration for this poem.
